Greenland’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that talks with the United States about the future of the polar island are continuing, but he declined to provide details.

In a debate in the European Parliament, Mouthe Agede said: “Officials are working hard to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, I can’t share details of those conversations, but what I can say is that our dialogue continues.”

Based on a report by EU Insite monitoring, the European Parliament’s committees on development and foreign affairs and the delegation for relations with countries of Northern Europe and the European Economic Area hosted the debate.

According to the same report, the meeting was held in the context of ongoing discussions about updating the rules governing the European Union’s relationship with Greenland and other overseas territories, as well as future financial support for Greenland in the EU’s next long-term budget.
