🔻 David Lammy, Britain’s foreign secretary, Israel’s sharp reaction to the announcement of sanctions
Described by Israel as “deeply regrettable” the sharp reaction to Britain’s foreign secretary’s announcement of sanctions on settlers in the occupied West Bank.
Mr. Lammy, referring to these sanctions, said that Britain should “do the right thing in line with national values.”
Yesterday, he said in Parliament that “I don’t think the people of Britain would want to support occupation by accepting products from settlements in their stores.”
In response to these sanctions, Israel has ordered the closure of the British consulate in Jerusalem within the next 30 days. It has also been reported that Israeli officials have asked British trainers who are responsible for training the Palestinian police in Ramallah to leave the country within a week.
Israel has not yet announced what actions it will take against Canada and France. The two countries, along with Britain, had announced a “trade ban” with Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
