Ali Khamenei’s body was laid to rest next to the tomb of Harun al-Rashid; in a place that today millions know by the name of Imam Reza’s shrine, but at the beginning it was the burial site of the Abbasid caliph.

Harun al-Rashid died in 193 AH, corresponding to 809 CE. About ten years later, Imam Reza died in 203 AH, corresponding to 818 CE, and his remains were buried next to Harun al-Rashid.

Now Khamenei is also buried in the same complex; a place whose history began under the name Harun al-Rashid, before it became known as Imam Reza.
