🔺UN warning about the risks of uncontrolled expansion of artificial intelligence ◾An independent UN panel warned that the pace of AI progress has outstripped scientific understanding and the capacity of governments to regulate effectively, and there is still no guarantee that this technology, as its capabilities increase, will not lead to widespread or even catastrophic harm. ◾According to Reuters, the panel, made up of 40 international experts, announced in its first global independent assessment of the risks and opportunities of AI that the complexity of tasks these systems are able to carry out doubles every four to seven months. ◾Based on the report, AI now has the ability to reason at the level of experts in some areas of mathematics and science, and it can accelerate processes such as the development of drugs and vaccines.
