Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. said it will move faster on construction of its second Arizona chip plant, a step that fits Washington’s broader effort to reduce dependence on overseas production for advanced semiconductors.
The expansion comes as U.S. officials and major tech companies look for more resilient supply chains for chips used in artificial intelligence and other high-performance computing systems. Nvidia and other industry leaders rely heavily on TSMC’s manufacturing capacity.
By increasing its U.S. footprint, TSMC is deepening a long-running push to diversify production beyond Taiwan, where much of the world’s most advanced chip output is concentrated. The move also reflects the strategic importance of semiconductors in the race for AI hardware.
Reuters reported that the company will accelerate work on the Arizona site, though the timeline and full production details were not immediately clear. The project remains one of the most closely watched industrial investments in the U.S. semiconductor sector.
