U.S. Central Command said Yemen’s Houthi forces fired an anti-ship ballistic missile toward international shipping in the Red Sea early Saturday. The missile was intercepted before it could hit any vessel, and no injuries or damage were reported.
The incident underscores the continuing threat to commercial traffic in one of the world’s most important maritime corridors. Since the war in Gaza escalated, Houthi attacks on shipping have disrupted trade and raised security risks for crews, insurers and global supply chains.
CENTCOM did not report any additional strikes or retaliatory action in its statement. The group, which is backed by Iran, has repeatedly targeted vessels it says are linked to Israel or its allies, while the actual impact has fallen on civilian shipping and maritime workers.
The latest interception highlights how fragile the Red Sea route remains, even when attacks are stopped before they reach their targets. For shipping companies and regional partners, the episode is another reminder that the threat to civilian commerce is ongoing.
