Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, said that on U.S. Independence Day he spoke with Donald Trump, the President of the United States, about the situation on the front line of the war with Russia. Zelensky described the call as “very good” and said there is a “realistic outlook” for ending the war and that “the decisiveness of the United States” will play a decisive role in this process. He also thanked the United States for its support for Ukraine against the Russian invasion and said the two sides agreed to continue discussions at the upcoming NATO summit in Turkey. The call took place at the same time as a separate conversation between Trump and Vladimir Putin; a call that the Kremlin said involved discussions about the war in Ukraine and the NATO summit.
