🔶 U.S. says it carried out attacks on Iranian positions in Greater Tunb and escalated the naval blockade
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that its forces early on Wednesday, July 15, targeted Iran’s coastal defense systems, as well as ammunition depots and the storage and launch locations for cruise missiles on the island of Greater Tunb.
According to CENTCOM, the attacks were carried out to reduce Iran’s ability to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Central Command also said that the operation is part of a new wave of U.S. attacks on Iran’s military targets that began on Wednesday morning.
At the same time, the command said on the social media platform X that since the resumption of the naval blockade of Iran’s ports, American forces have forced two commercial ships that, according to the institution, intended to pass through the blockade to change course.
CENTCOM emphasized that U.S. forces will remain “ready and vigilant” to fully carry out this naval blockade.
