🔻New York Times: New US intelligence reports show that Iran has gained more confidence six months after the war

In a piece based on US intelligence reports, the New York Times wrote that six months after the war, Iran has gained greater confidence in its military capabilities and may be considering a significant escalation of tensions.

The New York Times, in a report it published on its front page, citing people who reviewed recent US intelligence reports, wrote that Iran has become more confident in its ability to target positions in the Middle East.

Based on these assessments, the newspaper wrote: It appears that Iran is determined to prolong the war in order to wear down Washington and increase political pressure on Donald Trump ahead of the midterm elections.

The report also notes that the United States may have underestimated Iran’s resilience and its capacity to withstand ongoing bombardments and severe economic pressures.

The New York Times, citing people who reviewed the latest US intelligence assessments, writes: At present, there are few signs indicating that Tehran is prepared for a comprehensive agreement with the United States.

The report adds: Some US officials believe that as long as this war has political costs for Donald Trump inside the United States, Iran will find the continuation of the fighting beneficial.

The US assessment is that Iran may repeat in the coming weeks a pattern similar to the actions carried out in July—actions that include attacks on US bases in the Middle East, attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and targeting infrastructure in Kuwait and other countries.

Based on this report, the issue of cyberattacks within US territory has also become part of the assessments about Iran’s ability to exert pressure.

The newspaper writes: “US officials believe that hackers affiliated with Iran were likely responsible for attacks that targeted more than 100 water systems in the late July period and caused disruption at some facilities.”
