Military officer, economist, told Iran International, referring to the dollar rate reaching 215,000 tomans, that recent fluctuations are not only due to sanctions and a wartime atmosphere and that there are deeper roots in the Islamic Republic’s economic policymaking.
He considers the state of the banking system, inflation, budget/resource shortfalls, and the decline in the value of the rial as signs of a structural crisis in Iran’s economy and warns that in the coming months there may be more banking failures and an increase in demand for foreign currency in order to preserve the value of assets.
