🔻 Meeting between the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and Qalibaf

Bafel Talabani, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Iraq, met and held talks today in Tehran with Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.

In this meeting, Mr. Qalibaf said: «During the 40-day war, the Americans had ambitions to carry out security and military action against Iran from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq; however, with the help of our friends in the Kurdistan Region and in response to the timely reaction of Iran’s armed forces, this enemy plot was thwarted.»

He said that these events show that Iran and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq should expand their ties in the security and economic fields more than in the past.

According to reports by Iran’s news agencies, Bafel Talabani described the purpose of the meeting as dialogue to cooperate on security, political, and economic issues between Iran and Iraq, and said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported and backed the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

He also said in this meeting that officials in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq do not allow the region to become a place for creating insecurity against Iran.
