Kurdistan Freedom Party, a Kurdish party opposed to the Islamic Republic, accused this government of using white phosphorus munitions in a drone attack on one of its bases in western Erbil.
Based on the party’s statement published by the news agency Shafaq News, the party’s assessment was made on the basis of the type of injuries sustained by the wounded Peshmerga forces and the extensive fire at the site of the attack.
Kurdistan Freedom Party called the action a violation of international humanitarian law and urged the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the UN Human Rights Council, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to investigate the incident and hold the Islamic Republic accountable.
The party also asked the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to respond to “repeated attacks by the Islamic Republic.”
