🔶 Iraqchi’s calls with regional counterparts; intensifying efforts to revive negotiations
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Abbas Iraqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, on Thursday, 18 Tir (July 9), held separate phone calls with his Omani and Turkish counterparts, in which he reviewed the latest developments in the region, especially the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement from the ministry, the parties in these talks emphasized the necessity of using diplomatic channels to prevent the escalation of tensions even further.
In these discussions, the latest regional developments, especially recent events in the Strait of Hormuz and other issues of shared concern, were reviewed, and "the parties emphasized the importance of making use of diplomatic capacities, the continuation of contacts and coordination to follow up on regional matters and prevent the escalation of tensions".
On Thursday as well, Iraqchi also held phone calls with Asim Munir, the commander of Pakistan’s army, and Faisal bin Farhan, his Saudi counterpart.
Meanwhile, regional sources have confirmed that Pakistan and Qatar are trying to bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table.
