Heavy rain lashes south China's Hainan, triggering flooding

A tropical depression in the South China Sea, combined with a cold air mass, has dumped torrential rain on south China's Hainan Province since September 11.

Authorities have raised emergency alerts, opened reservoir gates for controlled releases, suspended work, business, production, public transport and closed tourist attractions.

Twelve cities and counties in Hainan, including Sanya, Wanning, and Wuzhishan, suspended classes at kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.
