🔶 German prosecutors file charges against woman suspected of spying for Russia
German federal prosecutors have filed charges against a woman suspected of spying for Russia.
The highest prosecutorial authority in Germany said that “Ilona V.” is accused of providing information to one of the employees of Russia’s intelligence services at the Russian embassy.
The woman is accused of cooperating with one of Russia’s intelligence officers at the country’s embassy in Berlin and of handing information over to him.
She was arrested in Berlin in January 2026 and has been held in custody ever since.
According to the prosecution, the accused ran a “marketing agency” in Berlin and also served as the head of a lobbying association, through which she had cultivated good connections with Germany’s military and political circles.
The prosecution said that at least since October 2023, the woman had been in contact with one of the intelligence employees of the Russian embassy in Berlin, and she is accused of helping this intelligence officer over the course of several years to build a network of contacts.
“Ilona V.” is also accused of providing information related to important and high-level political events to this person and of enabling him to attend those events.
In some cases, the intelligence officer took part in these events using a false name, in order to create a network of contacts for intelligence purposes, and the accused herself was also present at such events to identify people and likely targets.
She is also accused of collecting information regarding Germany’s defense policy and the country’s arms industries in connection with the Russia-Ukraine war.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Germany also stated that, based on the evidence available, there is sufficient suspicion that the woman worked for the intelligence service of a foreign power.
