Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s foreign minister, in a meeting with Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister, on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Manila, condemned attacks by the Islamic Republic against a number of countries in the Persian Gulf region. Based on a statement by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty emphasized Cairo’s full solidarity with the Persian Gulf countries and called for Egypt’s opposition to any threat to the security and sovereignty of these countries. He also stressed the necessity of reducing tensions through diplomacy and negotiation, and of preserving freedom of navigation in international waterways in accordance with international laws, and said that disrupting the movement of ships could have negative consequences for the global economy and energy security.
