Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said in remarks in the Rose Garden of the White House that the United States is “winning in the war” with the Islamic Republic “by a very large margin,” and that the recent attacks by the United States have inflicted extensive damage on Iran’s military capability.
Trump, referring to the U.S. attacks from last night, addressed Pete Hegseth, the U.S. secretary of war, and said: “Last night you did a good job in Iran. You really smashed them up.”
He said the Islamic Republic has lost much of its naval, air, and armament capabilities, adding: “They don’t have a navy. They don’t have an air force.”
Trump also described Iran’s economic situation as critical and said the country’s economy is “completely destroyed,” that inflation is close to 300 percent, and that the value of Iran’s currency has fallen. He added: “It’s just a matter of time.”
Trump said the goal of the United States’ actions is to help the Middle East, Israel, and U.S. security. He also once again said that the United States controls the Strait of Hormuz and that a large number of oil-carrying ships pass through this waterway every day and every night. According to Trump, so far the Islamic Republic has been unable to stop these transits.
