Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said at a gathering of Republicans in Dallas that if he had not taken the United States out of the JCPOA and if the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities had not been targeted with B-2 bombers, Tehran would now have acquired nuclear weapons.

Trump said: “We can’t allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. The matter is very simple; we can’t allow them to have nuclear weapons.”

He called the JCPOA one of the “worst agreements” and said the deal had created a path for the Islamic Republic to obtain nuclear weapons. Trump also accused the governments of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, former U.S. presidents, of adopting policies that allowed Tehran to have more resources at its disposal for its nuclear program.

In another part of his remarks, Trump said that the Islamic Republic hopes to continue the war until the third November midterm elections, so that afterward it can reach an agreement with the Democrats. He predicted that the war would end after the election and that oil prices would drop sharply.
