Data from three of Iran’s largest automakers indicate a 30% drop in their production in the spring of this year compared with the same season last year.
Production at Iran Khodro fell by 15%, Saipa by 47%, and Pars Khodro by 69%. These three automakers produced a total of about 125,000 vehicles in the spring of this year.
In addition to steel and petrochemical plants being targeted, the Islamic Republic’s blocking of the Strait of Hormuz and disruption of Iran’s foreign trade have affected the import of auto parts and the supply of raw materials for automakers.
Of course, this is the third spring in a row that Iran’s vehicle production has been on a downward trend. In spring 1402, Iran’s vehicle production was more than 324,000 units (2.6 times this year’s spring).
