Amnesty International calls for independent review of US and Israeli joint attacks on populated areas in Tehran

🔸Amnesty International called for an independent and impartial review of the deadly joint attacks by the United States and Israel on populated areas of Tehran in Esfand 1404, which resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of civilians.

🔸The organization also reminded Tehran of the necessity of complying with international legal obligations in retaliatory attacks by Iran against countries in the Persian Gulf region.

🔸In a statement published on Tuesday, 17 Shahrivar, it said that this review must be carried out immediately and that it should be determined whether these attacks amounted to a “war crime.”

🔸The organization called for accountability and compensation in response to potential attacks on Iran, “without distinguishing [between military personnel and civilians] and contrary to international law.”

🔸Since the start of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran on 9 Esfand last year, which led to the killing of Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, Tehran and Washington have been engaged in a war that, despite more than six months having passed, still continues directly and indirectly.

🔸Amnesty International says that the recent escalation in fighting between the United States and Iran—including reports about civilian casualties in the “deadly US attack on a wedding celebration in Hormozgan province” in early Shahrivar, and Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, and Bahrain—shows that the risks facing civilians throughout the region remain high.
