🔶 United Nations: Take immediate action to rein in artificial intelligence to prevent unprecedented risks
Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has asked countries and companies working in advanced artificial intelligence to take immediate action to rein in this technology which, according to him, could create “unprecedented risks.”
As reported by Agence France-Presse, Türk, in a letter sent to countries and AI developers and shared with the media, warns that the world “is on the brink of an irreversible transformation—one that will affect not only us, but also future generations of humanity.”
He described the current race to achieve ever more powerful artificial intelligence as a “leap toward even greater existential dangers for all aspects of life.”
Türk is sending the letter at a time when concerns about the risks of “superintelligent” or “superintelligent” computer systems have fully come to the fore—after Jacob Kaxson, a researcher at the AI company Anthropic, publicly resigned from leading AI companies out of “fear that this technology may escape human control.”
