🔺The UN Security Council will vote on extending the mandate of the Iran sanctions monitoring task force
◾France announced that the UN Security Council this month will vote on extending the mandate of the panel of experts monitoring sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic.
◾UN diplomats said this vote will likely take place on 26 Shahrivar and could lead to a confrontation with Russia and China, which oppose the sanctions regime and monitoring mechanisms.
◾The mandate of this panel monitoring Iran’s sanctions expires on 4 Mehr, coinciding with the annual meeting of world leaders at the UN General Assembly.
◾In outlining the priorities of its country’s presidency of the Security Council, France’s ambassador to the UN said that the nuclear file and the Islamic Republic’s noncompliance with its commitments will be at the center of this month’s discussions.
