Donald Trump, the U.S. president, on the eve of the NATO summit of leaders in Turkey, asked Congress to approve $350 billion in defense funding and make it a priority. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that the U.S. Army has “never been stronger or more powerful” and that this year it has set fresh historical records in recruitment. He said the strength of the U.S. Army was on display as the country marked the 251st anniversary of independence, and called for the swift approval of the “Budget Reconciliation 3.0” package and the “American Rescue Act.” The message was released while increases in defense spending by the United States and its allies are among the main topics of the NATO summit in Turkey.
