The New York Times reported, citing Iranian and Iraqi officials, that Ali al-Zaidi, the new Iraqi prime minister, carried a proposal from Trump during his trip to Tehran.
Iranian officials told The New York Times that the Islamic Republic has no interest in a “temporary agreement” that would not determine the final status of the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, Israeli media had reported that Ali al-Zaidi has been trying to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and transfer a ceasefire proposal between the United States and the Islamic Republic to Tehran. Israel’s Channel 14 also claimed that keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed so far has caused losses to Iraq exceeding $50 billion.
