The New York Post reported that the Islamic Republic used, for the first time, missiles equipped with an electro-optical guidance system in the attacks of Wednesday, 18 Shahrivar, against U.S. warships.

These missiles track the target using cameras and optical sensors. The New York Post, citing The Telegraph, wrote that this technology was used in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ attacks on American forces and on vessels deployed near the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM has confirmed the missile attacks, but said that no U.S. warship was targeted and that all attempts by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to attack these ships were unsuccessful.

Government-affiliated media had previously announced that the ballistic missile “Qasim Basir” was fired at U.S. ships near the Strait of Hormuz. Officials of the Islamic Republic say the missile has the capability for precise guidance without relying on the Global Positioning System and is resistant to electronic warfare.

On Wednesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it targeted two U.S. vessels, eight oil tankers, and 10 ships. CENTCOM, rejecting the claim, added that U.S. forces destroyed 10 Iranian oil tankers over the course of a week.
