The UK Maritime Trade Operations organization said on Wednesday, 18 Shahrivar, that several merchant ships in the northern part of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman were targeted by fire during the military clashes in the region during the night of the previous day.

The organization, which is affiliated with the British navy, said it could not confirm any loss of life or environmental consequences from these incidents.

In a separate incident, the organization reported another occurrence 24 nautical miles from the port of Rashid in the United Arab Emirates. The organization said a captain observed the vessel while it was anchored and listing, an issue that likely indicates the ship suffered flooding after an attack with an unidentified projectile.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center said authorities are investigating the incident and asked ships to exercise caution when transiting the area and report any suspicious activity.

On Tuesday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers after failed missile attacks on a U.S. Navy warship over the past two days.

Reuters also reported on Wednesday that a Panama-flagged tanker carrying two million barrels of Iraqi heavy oil was targeted by a drone attack in Iraqi territorial waters.

Reuters reported the news citing two port officials.

These port officials, whose names and positions were not disclosed, told Reuters that Iraqi rescue and firefighting boats put out a fire on the tanker “New Andros.” No report of casualties has been published in this regard.
