🔶 More than 100 Democratic lawmakers called for a halt to U.S. military aid to Israel
More than 100 Democratic lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives approved a proposal to remove billions of dollars in annual U.S. military assistance to Israel; an effort that, although it did not succeed, is seen as a sign of the growing divide within the Democratic Party over support for Israel.
The goal of the proposal was to eliminate about $3.3 billion in U.S. military aid to Israel in the coming fiscal year.
In the end, the proposal failed with 314 votes against and 104 votes in favor. Apart from Thomas Massie, no other Republican lawmaker supported it, and widespread opposition from Republicans was the main reason it was rejected.
However, out of 215 Democratic lawmakers in the House of Representatives, 103 voted in favor of the proposal and 10 also abstained.
