Mohsen Rezayi, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, reported the Islamic Republic’s decision to announce a new restricted area in parts of the Persian Gulf; an area, according to him, that will begin from the U.S. Navy quarantine line and will include the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. Rezayi, on September 6, 1405 (15 Shahrivar 1405), in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s state broadcaster, said that this area will be announced in the coming days, and any ship that enters it will be placed on the list of sanctions of the Islamic Republic. He also called the Strait of Hormuz “completely closed” and described statements by Donald Trump, the U.S. president, about the waterway being open as a “big lie.” According to Rezayi, at present, at most seven to eight ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz, five to six of which carry essential goods to Iran.
