👈Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, has invited senior officials from more than 60 countries to attend a meeting next week, the subject of which, according to the Trump administration, is the revival of transnational extremist terrorism. This issue, in particular, concerns the group “Antifa,” according to a report by The Washington Post.
The proposal has raised concerns among U.S. officials, European allies, and terrorism experts. Many of them believe that “Antifa” is a decentralized movement and not a foreign terrorist organization, and therefore does not constitute a serious international threat.
Sebastian Gorka, the White House’s counterterrorism adviser, has discussed whether the label “foreign terrorist organization” could be used to target individuals who have ties to “Antifa.” According to officials, this action could provide additional investigative tools such as surveillance. Some administration officials have warned that establishing such a procedure may be used in the future by subsequent governments against conservative activists
