🔶 Iraqchi traveled to Doha to attend the memorial ceremony for the former emir of Qatar
Abbas Iraqchi, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, arrived in Doha on Wednesday evening, July 15 (24 Tir), to attend a ceremony paying respects to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former emir of Qatar.
In this regard, Iran’s official media reported that he will also convey the condolence message of officials of the Islamic Republic to Qatari officials.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the father of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the current emir of Qatar, died last Saturday after a period of illness and old age.
Iraqchi’s trip comes only a few days after Iran’s missile attack on the Al Udeid base, where U.S. forces are stationed in Qatar—an attack that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said was carried out in response to attacks by the United States against Iran.
Qatar, which in recent months has also played a mediating role between Tehran and Washington, after that attack called for de-escalation of tensions in the region.
