How a Ukrainian drone pioneer helped turn FPVs into weapons

Can Ukraine keep up with Russia's growing use of drones? As unmanned systems become increasingly central to the war, Ukrainian forces are adapting their tactics to counter Russia's greater number of drone crews.

In this interview, the Kyiv Independent's Francis Farrell speaks with “Schweiger,” a Ukrainian drone operator from the Signum UAV Battalion of Ukraine's 59th Separate Assault Brigade – one of the country's pioneering FPV drone units. He recounts carrying out the first-ever kamikaze strike with an FPV (first-person view) drone in 2022 and explains how the technology has evolved and expanded since then.
