Fatemeh Azizekhani, senior researcher at the Parliament Research Center, said the poverty line in 1405 across the country is about 32 million tomans and in Tehran is more than 62 million tomans.
She warned the government that if a “network of economic security” is not designed, even working households will soon fall below the poverty line.
Roozbih Boalehary, a member of the editorial board of Iran International, pointing to the rise in inflation and pressure from living costs, said the government has tried to reduce public dissatisfaction with promises such as increasing the purchasing credit for goods, but so far no specific action has been taken in this regard.
She added that alongside the expansion of protests by workers and retirees, security institutions in recent days have summoned and interrogated a number of civil activists, and the government is trying to curb the protests by increasing security pressures.
