The President of the European Commission is expected to unveil an increase in the European Union’s investment in Greenland and closer political ties with this Danish Arctic territory on Monday.
Ursula von der Leyen traveled to Greenland on Sunday for a two-day trip; a visit that signals support for the governments of Greenland and Denmark. The two governments have firmly rejected Donald Trump’s campaign to annex the world’s largest island.
Based on a Financial Times report citing two knowledgeable sources, the package is about €200 million for the years 2026 and 2027 and includes critical raw materials, renewable energy, subsea cables, satellite communications, and data centers.
