Defense representatives for Cilia Flores, wife of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, have asked the federal court in New York to release her from custody before substantive hearings due to heart problems.

Her lawyers say she underwent heart surgery before her capture, requires medication and nitroglycerin, and poses no threat to society, proposing replacing custody with house arrest.
