🔶 Bessent on Iran: Washington intends to choke this regime
The U.S. Treasury Secretary said, adding that “Iran has only about 30 million barrels of crude oil left that China hasn’t bought yet,” that “U.S. sanctions and a maritime blockade will soon prevent further supplies from Tehran.”
Speaking to Fox News on Sunday, September 6 (Shahrivar 15), Scott Bessent, referring to China’s role as the main buyer of Iranian oil, said: “The maritime blockade prevents the departure of newly arrived cargoes and probably leaves only about 30 million barrels of Iran’s crude oil that China has not yet bought. Once the remaining cargoes are used up, China will no longer have any oil from Iran to buy.”
Bessent described the U.S. campaign of “economic removal” against Iran as an effort to achieve an unprecedented isolation of the Islamic Republic and said: “Washington intends to choke this regime.”
He said: “The maritime blockade is having an unprecedented impact. Everyone says that sanctions don’t work, but the combination of a blockade and sanctions is one of the most powerful blows in the history of economic isolation.”
