🔶 "Austria, under U.S. pressure, prevented Mohammad Islami from attending the summit of the International Atomic Energy Agency"
According to a source familiar with the matter, the Associated Press reported that Mohammad Islami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, for the first time in several years likely will not participate in the annual meeting of the member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna. The informed source cited the reason for this as a ban on Islami’s international travel.
The Associated Press described Islami’s absence from the meeting as another sign of the worsening of ties between Iran and Western countries. Since his appointment as head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization in 2021, Islami has regularly attended and spoken at the International Atomic Energy Agency conferences in Vienna.
The informed source told the news agency that Austria had asked the United Nations sanctions committee to consider an exemption from the travel ban for Islami, but the request was not accepted.
