As Russia increases its use of jet-powered Shahed drone variants, defense companies are working to build a new generation of faster interceptors.

Based on a Reuters report from the Farnborough airshow in the UK, the Ukrainian company SkyFall unveiled a new interceptor drone called “P-ONE San Jetkiller,” whose speed reaches 370 kilometers per hour. A spokesperson for the company said the drone had been tested on the battlefield and had shot down more than ten jet-powered Shahed drones.

Jet-powered Shahed drones move at speeds of up to 500 kilometers per hour, limiting detection and response time for Ukraine. According to Yuriy Chervovashchenko, one of Ukraine’s senior Air Force commanders, 15 to 20 percent of the Shahed drones Russia fires now have jet engines.

The low-cost, long-range drone is produced by the Islamic Republic, which Russia manufactures under the name “Geran.” The Islamic Republic has for years denied its role in the war in Ukraine in the face of criticism over supplying these drones to Russia.
