A note in Israel National News has raised the hypothesis that Ismail Haniyeh may have been an intelligence source for Israel at one time and then used that country’s intelligence institutions’ trust to conceal the October 7 attack.

Avi Pri, an Israeli analyst, described Haniyeh’s long survival, his family ties with Israel, the treatment of his relatives in Israeli hospitals, and Israel’s change in behavior after October 7 as clues to this hypothesis.

In his view, a trusted source within Hamas leadership could have made Israel believe that Hamas had no intention of war by downplaying the warnings.

Pri said he believes Israel, after October 7, may have concluded that Haniyeh used this country’s trust for strategic deception and for that reason targeted him in Tehran.

However, the author emphasized that there is no direct evidence to prove Haniyeh’s intelligence cooperation with Israel and that this theory is based only on indirect evidence.
