Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, said in her speech in Greenland that the European Union is “fully aligned” with Denmark and the people of Greenland, adding that the future of Greenland should be determined by Greenland and Denmark.
Von der Leyen said that €200 million in new investment for Greenland would be allocated this year and next, focusing on connectivity, clean energy, and critical raw materials.
As expected, the European Union plans to increase its dedicated budget for Greenland by more than double by 2034, to €530 million.
