Two handsome guests from Iran🦌

This morning, a park ranger at the Baram National Park in the Galilee area of northern Israel came across a beautiful sight. Two Iranian yellow deer, which were apparently brought there from a natural reserve adjacent to the park.

The Iranian yellow deer is a subspecies of the yellow deer that was on the brink of extinction. But with the measures taken by the Iranian government during the Pahlavi monarchy, this generation was successfully preserved.

In the years before the Revolution, Israel’s Nature and Parks Authority entered into discussions with the imperial government in order to bring several of them to Israel for protection. At the same time, Israel received two male deer from Germany, which had previously been transferred there from Iran for protection.

Moments before the arrival of Khomeini, and on the last Tehran–Tel Aviv flight, 4 female yellow deer were transferred to Israel, as the imperial government had promised, with the help of Lieutenant General Manouchehr Khosrodaad. Now, several herds of Iranian yellow deer live in Mount Carmel in Israel and are under protection.
