Let me share the theories that are being put forward.

The first theory is that the Israelis were trying to provoke the Turks. If you remember, in a similar situation the Turks shot down a Russian aircraft. This is a very dangerous game—using aircraft at the border without notifying anyone and without an agreement.

This part was serious and worrying, because I know that the Turks—intelligence services, the hierarchy, the foreign minister, the president, the head of the intelligence organization—are all focused on restraint. That is true. They are not aggressive.

They have no interest in launching an attack or even getting involved in any kind of hostile relationship with Israel. This is not good for the region, and it is not good for themselves either.

Everyone is looking for a way out of this situation. From Turkey’s perspective, this way out is more of a solution to the Palestinian issue than it is about Iran. This is really the main problem among the Turkish people and Islamic communities.

So, one theory is that they were simply trying to provoke Turkey—which is a very aggressive idea, but maybe it will be well received, as a plan ahead of the elections. This is one of the theories.
