🔶 The United States has imposed sanctions on a major Russian bank for cooperating with Iran
The U.S. Treasury Department announced that it has sanctioned the Russian bank “VTB” for “helping the Islamic Republic to evade sanctions, establishing correspondent banking relationships with Iranian banks that are under sanctions, and attempting to move billions of dollars of Iran’s frozen assets.”
“VTB,” which is considered the second-largest bank in Russia, has now been added to the list of sanctioned entities by this ministry as part of the “economic isolation” operation.
In a statement released by the U.S. Treasury Department in this regard, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was quoted as saying: “As part of the economic isolation operation, the Treasury Department will continue to target and disrupt the activities of entities that provide material, technological, or financial support, thereby enabling the continued operation of the Iranian regime’s terrorist activities.”
Bessent added: “The Treasury Department will not tolerate any support for this regime, and will continue identifying, exposing, and isolating the entities that enable it to carry on its activities.”
