🔻The European Union called attacks on ships in the Red Sea unacceptable and asked the Houthis to stop
Kaja Kallas, the EU foreign policy chief, called the Iran-backed Houthi attack on a Saudi Arabian ship in the Red Sea waters “unacceptable and illegal,” and urged the Houthis to stop these attacks.
She said in a statement on Thursday: “Attacking a tanker in the Red Sea is unacceptable and illegal, and contributes to further escalation of tensions in the region.”
Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s state news agency, citing an official source at the country’s transport organization, reported that, following an attack, the front section of the “Anslia” tanker caught fire. According to the source, all crew members are safe and the incident involved no casualties.
In the early hours of Thursday, Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen claimed that they targeted two Saudi tankers that intended to pass through their maritime blockade.
