According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, Cho Hyun, in remarks to reporters before his departure for Washington, said: “No decision has been made yet, and we are reviewing all related factors.”

He added: “In this process, we will prioritize international cooperation and, at the same time, we will place the security of our own people and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz at the top of our priorities.”

In August, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would reduce military drills with South Korea because the country has refused to join U.S. military efforts in Iran.

South Korea has sent a delegation to assess the security situation to the region and warned the Islamic Republic that any military involvement by Seoul in the Persian Gulf would have “serious consequences.”

South Korea also condemned the Houthis’ attacks on non-military and economic facilities in southern Saudi Arabia and urged the group to stop its attacks immediately.
