“Sheikh Khesarat”; Why did media close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards attack Hassan Rouhani?

🔸Hardline media close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) reacted to Hassan Rouhani’s recent remarks, Iran’s former president, about the need to end the war with the United States, and called these remarks “dangerous.”

🔸At the same time, some other political figures, such as Mohsen Hashemi, have also warned about the continuation of the war. Why are these warnings thought-provoking in the current sensitive situation, and will they have any effect on the major decisions related to the war?

🔸Since the 12-day war between Israel and the United States against Iran in 1404, Hassan Rouhani, president of the Islamic Republic’s eleventh and twelfth governments, has repeatedly commented in his speeches on war and Iran’s foreign policy, and has consistently emphasized the necessity of strengthening diplomacy, negotiations, and preventing a repeat of war.

🔸He has recently also criticized the current foreign policy of the Islamic Republic in a meeting with governors and officials of his previous governments, and in particular attacked Iran’s state broadcaster (IRIB), which these days serves as the mouthpiece of these foreign-policy positions through the words of principlist figures and senior military personnel.

🔸Rouhani said: “This is very important that first we clarify for ourselves the framework of our national objectives, and then present it to the people. Let’s say, people! Our plan is that we will fight with the world’s great powers for the next 20 years. If the people say we accept it, then very well, we should go ahead. But if the people do not accept it and show us another path, don’t we want to accept it?”
