🔻Saudi Arabia cancels its security alert in its southern city one day after Houthi attack

Saudi Arabia has canceled the security alert announced in its southern city of Khamis Mushait today. This alert had been issued one day after the Houthi attacks on this city and three other nearby cities, which left 73 people injured and also caused damage to oil facilities. The Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen targeted an air base in Khamis Mushait and oil infrastructure in nearby cities in what was on Tuesday one of the largest attacks on Saudi Arabia since the start of the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran. Fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has intensified in recent months and has increased concerns about a return to a wider conflict; this comes while a ceasefire brokered by the United Nations in 2022 had largely put an end to years of war. Saudi Arabia leads the Arab coalition that supports the government in southern Yemen that was pushed out of the capital, Sana’a, by the Houthis 12 years ago. Less than three months ago, the Houthis said they had imposed a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. Following this move, the coalition led by Saudi Arabia has attacked what it calls Houthi military installations in Yemen.
