Satellite images and ship-tracking data show that about 20 empty tankers linked to the Islamic Republic have stopped near Sri Lanka’s waters because they are unable to return to ports in Iran. According to a report by the Financial Times, after unloading their cargoes, these tankers have mainly anchored in China, near the southern coasts of Sri Lanka. Tracking data indicates that around 13 tankers flying the Iranian flag have anchored along the territorial waters of Sri Lanka, and several other tankers from the so-called "shadow fleet" are also present in the same area.
