🔻Pep Guardiola rejected a proposal to coach the Italian national team. According to Italian media such as Sky Sport and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Guardiola, after a few days of review, informed Paolo Maldini and Leonardo of his refusal.

🔹In a phone call with them, Guardiola said: “Thank you, it’s an honor, but at the moment I have no desire to take on this responsibility.” After 10 years at Manchester City, Guardiola prefers to rest for now and does not intend to enter a long-term project (8 to 10 years) to rebuild the structure of Italian football.

🔹Maldini, also at a press conference for Serie A League, while confirming these talks, said: “It was natural to go after the best coach in the world. Of course, before him we had also spoken with Carlo Ancelotti.” With Guardiola’s involvement now ruled out, Andrea Pirlo—currently the head coach of United FC Emirates—is now being discussed as the main candidate and the frontrunner to lead the Azzurri.
