On the eve of the new school year, a multiple increase in the prices of stationery, school uniforms, and school fees has raised the cost of educating children in Iran.

The newspaper Shargh has estimated the minimum cost of sending a child to school at four million and 500 thousand tomans, and written that, given inflation and rising expenses, at least 950,000 students may be left out of education.

Sara Emtiali, a journalist, says that children being denied an education can put them into a cycle of poverty, exploitation, and social harms, and that girls who are left out of education are also more exposed to informal work, early marriage, and violence.
