On 28 Mordad 1357 (Solar Hijri), the Rex Cinema in Abadan suffered a fire while the film “Gozan/“Goshan”” was being shown.
In this incident, which later investigations indicated was intentional, most people present in the cinema hall burned to death in the fire. Initial speculation suggested the involvement of SAVAK in the arson.
Ultimately, in 1359 (Solar Hijri), a man named Hossein Takbali-Zadeh—who had also been arrested before the victory of the revolution on the same accusation—confessed that he and his friends were responsible for the crime.
After 50 hours of trial, Takbali-Zadeh was sentenced to death and executed by firing squad.
Mohsen Safai Farahani: The crime of the Rex Cinema in Abadan was not committed by the Shah regime; the perpetrators of this crime became members of parliament after the revolution...!!
